Hairstory manufactures and sells unique premium hair care products to regular customers and independent hairdressers using an innovative direct selling model.

Hairstory has developed an innovative distribution model that eliminates the need for regional distributors, bulk sales to salon owners, or large-scale retailers. Instead, haircare professionals are directly rewarded through the Hairstory referral program.

Challenge

Back in 2017, Hairstory already had an eCommerce store. However, it was a proprietary, vendor-locked .Net solution with limited flexibility for changes and high maintenance costs. Hairstory approached DataArt (formerly Logicify) to develop a new, highly customized, and transparent solution.
When the decision was made to switch platforms, the DataArt team supported Hairstory with consulting, fine-tuning the new platform, and data migration. This involved migrating subscriptions and payment methods as well as ensuring the quality and completeness of migrated data.

Faced with an extremely tight time-to-market, DataArt was challenged to implement a set of resource-intensive features for Hairstory’s new and improved platform. It was decided to begin with standard eCommerce features: browsing products, adding them to the shopping cart, providing shipping information, and entering credit card details. All these steps were automated, so for subscription orders, customers no longer needed to take manual actions.

Another task was integrating with a tax provider to calculate sales tax for the products. DataArt also implemented Hairstory’s commissions engine, designed to support hairdressers in their own shops. The platform was launched on time and has been used by the client for over five years.

After the initial launch, the custom eCommerce platform was enriched with a variety of features. This included:
  • Integrations with seven different logistics partners worldwide, from the US to New Zealand, ensuring timely product delivery;
  • Various payment method integrations to serve clients globally;
  • Integrations with BI tools that aid client decision-making;
  • Integration with marketing automation platforms that enable diverse marketing approaches;
  • A powerful custom discounts engine;
  • An internal points system; and
  • A referral program.
